There are moments in life when everything feels heavy. Business is tough. Relationships are strained. Motivation is low. The goals you were excited about a few months ago suddenly seem a million miles away.

Most people respond by turning inward. They focus on their own problems, their own frustrations, their own circumstances.

But over the years, I’ve discovered something powerful.

When things are going bad for yourself, do good for others.

Send the message.Make the call.Encourage the person.Help the colleague.Buy the coffee.Support the friend.Show up for someone else.Because something incredible happens when you stop focusing exclusively on your own struggles and start making a positive impact on someone else’s day.

Perspective returns.Gratitude returns.Purpose returns.

The funny thing about helping others is that it often helps you more than it helps them. You realise that everyone is carrying something.Everyone is fighting a battle.Everyone has moments where they need encouragement. And often, the very thing you’re looking for is found in becoming the person who gives it.

I’ve seen it in elite sport, in business, and in life. The people who continue to move forward during difficult seasons are rarely the ones obsessed with themselves. They’re the ones who stay connected to serving others, leading others, and lifting others.

You don’t have to solve your problems today. You don’t have to have all the answers. But you can do one thing.

Do something good for someone else.

You may be surprised at how much lighter your own load feels afterwards.Because sometimes the fastest way to find your way through a dark season is to become a light for someone else.
