One of the principles I live by is incredibly simple. State the fact. Tell the truth. Not the version people want to hear. Not the version that gets the most likes. Not the version that keeps everyone comfortable. The truth.
Because the truth is where change begins.
I’ve never wanted to build a business that tells people what they want to hear. I’ve wanted to build one that tells people what they need to hear. That doesn’t always make you popular. It does, however, make you honest.
At The Daily J, we don’t sell hope in a bottle. We don’t sell shortcuts. We don’t pretend there is a secret that nobody else has discovered. The facts are the facts. If you want a healthier body, you have to move it. If you want to age well, you need strength. If you want more energy, you need to look after yourself consistently.
If you’re losing muscle every year because you’re doing nothing about it, that’s not an opinion. It’s biology. If your body hurts because you’ve spent years neglecting it, that’s not bad luck. It’s the consequence of accumulated choices. The truth doesn’t care how we feel about it.
It just is. And here’s where I think we’ve gone wrong as a society. We’ve become so scared of offending people that we’ve stopped telling them the truth. Instead, we tell people they’re fine. That they shouldn’t feel uncomfortable. That change is hard, so maybe don’t worry about it. Meanwhile, people are becoming weaker. Less mobile. More dependent. Less confident. And then we wonder why our healthcare systems are overflowing.
I refuse to believe that’s kindness. Real kindness is having the courage to tell someone the truth and then standing beside them while they do something about it.
That’s what we do every day at The Daily J. We tell people to get up. We tell people to exercise. We tell people to become stronger. Not because we’re trying to make them feel guilty. Because we believe, with everything we’ve got, that it is the right thing to do.
I sleep well at night because I know what we’re building has integrity. If someone joins us and becomes stronger, their life improves. They play with their grandchildren. They carry their shopping without pain. They travel with confidence. They reduce their risk of falls. They become more independent. They show up better for the people they love. Tell me that isn’t worth fighting for.
People often ask me why I’m so passionate. It’s because this isn’t just a subscription business to me. It’s a responsibility. Every post. Every workout. Every conversation. Every challenge. Every piece of encouragement. It’s all aimed at one thing:
Helping ordinary people live extraordinary lives for longer. So yes, sometimes I’ll challenge you. Sometimes I’ll tell you to stop making excuses. Sometimes I’ll ask you to take ownership. Not because I’m judging you. Because I care too much to lie to you. I’d rather lose a customer by telling them the truth than keep one by selling them a lie.
That’s a principle I’ll never compromise. Because long after the algorithms change, the trends disappear, and the latest fitness fad fades away, the fundamentals will still be there.
Move your body. Build your strength. Look after your health. Be consistent. The facts haven’t changed. And neither has the truth. State the fact. Tell the truth. Then have the courage to live by both. That’s what I believe.
And that’s what The Daily J will always stand for.
Huge love and High 5’s
Johno
