Why We Show Up

This July, the Daily J team and community is rallying together to rebuild hope at Dinoko Daycare Centre, just outside the Timbavati Nature Reserve.

Thanks to the amazing work of the Timbavati Foundation, there have already been upgrades — but the centre still faces serious challenges. The space meant to nurture and educate young children just isn’t safe or fully functional yet. And that’s not okay.

While our bigger mission often focuses on protecting the rhino, we know we can’t look after the wildlife without also looking after the people who live in and around the land. Community and conservation go hand in hand — and that includes giving kids the environment they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

When I visited the school, it hit me hard. I pictured my own kids in that setting, and I knew we had to do something. Even a small impact can change lives. And if there’s one thing our Daily J community does well, it’s showing up for a cause.

Because giving feels good.
Helping others brings perspective.
And if we can do that by moving together, that’s a double win.

We all struggle with motivation. We all get stuck. But sometimes, we just need a shift in perspective.

How can we be too lazy to move…
…when some children walk kilometres just to get to a school that barely works for them?
How can we not help, when the help is so simple?

So next time you’re about to buy a takeaway or a bottle of wine — maybe skip it.
Donate R200 instead, and be part of something bigger.

Join the “Move for Them” Campaign:

Your R200 donation gets you access to a powerful virtual movement experience where we walk, run, crawl — and MOVE — for the children of Dinoko.

Alongside me and the Daily J community, I’ll be taking on the Timbavati Traverse.
We’ll sweat with purpose. We’ll move with meaning.

Let’s build a school.
Let’s back our people.
Let’s #MoveForThem
